CENTENO TOPS AMIT, RECLAIMS WOMEN'S 10-BALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CROWN

(UPDATE) MANILA, Philippines — Chezka Centeno reclaimed the WPA Women's World 10-ball title after topping Rubilen Amit in an all-Filipina final, 4-1, 2-4, 4-2, 3-4, 4-2, in Bali, Indonesia on Sunday night.

Centeno lost to Seo Seoa of South Korea in the semifnal to relinquish the crown in last year's edition.

This time, ‘The Flash’ stayed composed on the face of an Amit comeback driven by her bid for a third title.

Amit committed a dry break to start the fifth set, paving the way for back-to-back runouts by Centeno and eventually the win.

In the middle of it were a series of safety shots and some bad shots and scratches from both players but breaks ultimately favored Centeno.

The break couldn’t come in a better time for Centeno who went on a runout in the sixth rack of the fifth set following a scratch by Amit off her break.

Centeno taking advantage of that Amit blunder sealed her win in the best-of-5 sets, race to 4 racks in each set match that lasted for nearly three hours and 20 minutes.

Centeno pocketed $50,000 or P2.9 million for ruling the tournament while Amit bagged $25,000 or P1.4 million as a runner-up.

Centeno kickstarted her knockout phase run by dethroning last year's champ Kristina Tkach of Russia in the round of 16, 3-1.

She then outdueled Wang Wan-Ling of Taiwan in the quarterfinals, 3-2, before sweeping Liu Shasha in the semis, 3-0.

On the other hand, Amit blanked Pia Filler of Germany in the last 16, 3-0, and Chou Chieh-Yu of Taiwan, 2-3, in the quarters before taking down Maragarita Fefilova in the semis, 3-1.

Four other Filipinas in Sofhia Vyanca Rosales, Rhaki Roj Constantino, Denise Santos, and Carmille Buhat competed in the tournament but got booted out before the knockout phase.
