MANILA, Philippines — It seems Quentin Millora-Brown passed his first Gilas Pilipinas tour of duty with flying colors.
Millora-Brown, who was a big part of the puzzle for Gilas in the first window of the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers, earned praises from head coach Tim Cone and guard Dwight Ramos.
The 6-foot-10 big man averaged 7.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in the two first window games against Guam, to go with 1.5 blocks a contest.
After Gilas’ 95-71 win over Guam on Monday, Cone said Millora-Brown is “just what the doctor ordered” for the team.
“He's just scratching the surface of his ability to help us. I mean, we're still exploring his game. He's exploring his game within the system. There's a lot more levels for him to go,” he told reporters.
“The initial look is that, you know, he's just what the doctor ordered. You know, he's that weak side big man that can, you know, he's a really strong defender,” he added, underscoring the center’s matchup with Jonathan Galloway and Tai Wesley.
Millora-Brown was included in the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the first time in time for the first window.
He shored up the Philippines’ frontline that missed 7-foot-3 behemoth Kai Sotto.
“He battled Wesley really well. Went around and battled Galloway really well. And those guys are high-level players. And then he got to the offensive boards. He ran the floor. You know, he's just a very active, active big,” Cone stressed.
“And, again, that's just what the doctor ordered for us.”
Ramos, for his part, also lauded his roommate.
“I love the way he plays. He's not scared to challenge shots. And he's, you know, physical down there in the paint. So I'm looking forward to seeing him again and his improvements.”
The Philippines won both games against Guam. The team will return to action next year in a pair of home games against New Zealand and Australia.
