ARVIN TOLENTINO WINS MVP, FILIPINOS SHINE IN KBL ALL-STAR

MANILA, Philippines—Filipino imports shone bright in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) All-Star Weekend on Saturday.

Behind Filipino stars, Team Asia squeaked past Team Rookie, 82-79, as part of the All-Star festivities at Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium.

Arvin Tolentino of the Seoul SK Knights took home the All-Star MVP award after tallying 19 points and 14 rebounds for the Filipino-laden side.

Helping Tolentino in the victory was Busan KCC Egis’ William Navarro, who turned in an all-around game of 22 points, five assists and four rebounds.

The forward tandem of Goyang’s Kevin Quiambao and Seoul’s Justin Gutang combined for 24 points with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Daegu playmaker SJ Belangel added nine points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals while Ulsan’s Jake Figueroa made his KBL debut with three points.

Changwon’s Carl Tamayo and Anyang’s Rhenz Abando sat out the exhibition game.

Over at the B.League in Japan, Filipinos also showcased their talents in an interesting All-Star Game that pitted Asia’s top players against select squads.

Yokohama’s Kiefer Ravena and the Asia All-Stars trounced the Rising Stars, 20-17, Then, Levanga’s Dwight Ramos steered the Asian Players Quota selection past the B.League B2 Select, 30-29, with a game-winning triple.

In the Slam Dunk Contest, Nagoya’s Francis Lopez placed second.
