MANILA, Philippines—As if he hasn’t proven it enough, San Miguel big man Rodney Brondial is ready to show his worth for the Beermen anew in the upcoming PBA Philippine Cup Finals against TNT.
Brondial said on Monday that he will take on whatever role is given to him by coach Leo Austria to help San Miguel win its second straight all-Filipino championship.
“It’s really not important for me whether I start or I’m in the second unit,” Brondial said in the PBA Finals Press Conference at Novotel.
“Our goal is always the same. It doesn’t matter who starts or who’s on the other side; the goal is to win.”
Unlike Beermen bench mob members Jericho Cruz and Don Trollano, Brondial often found himself part of the starting five.
Brondial started in four of San Miguel’s six games in the semifinals against Barangay Ginebra.
Even when he did come off the bench, he made it a point to backstop reigning MVP June Mar Fajardo in the paint; something the Adamson product is more than willing to do.
“If that’s what I can do to help, then I’ll make things easier for them [starters] so we can finish it off early.”
Brondial and the rest of the Beermen look to do their part against the Tropang 5G in Game 1 of the Finals on Wednesday at Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo.
