PBA: MAVERICK AHANMISI WANTS TO BE TRADED FROM GINEBRA

MANILA, Philippines–Maverick Ahanmisi has asked to be traded by Barangay Ginebra after three seasons, citing his desire for more playing time.

Ahanmisi revealed his intentions through a YouTube vlog posted on Thursday, even showing an online conversation with a certain “Boss,” who is likely San Miguel Corporation sports director Alfrancis Chua.

The person on the other end of the line, apparently Chua, responded by saying “It’s up to you.”

“I don’t know how people will take it, but to be honest I love my teammates, I’m cool with everybody on that team and I appreciate the fans. I even appreciate the m____f_____ who don’t f___ with me,” Ahanmisi explained.

“[But] as a player, you want the opportunity to play and showcase your talent, so there’s a fine line with being patient and waiting for your turn. But I just turned 34 and I’m now at the back end of my career so you don’t have to waste your time.

The 10-year veteran averaged 7.5 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 65 games last season, but averaged 21.8 minutes.

Ahanmisi joined Ginebra as an unrestricted free agent in 2023 after an All-Star caliber showing for Converge the previous season. His previous teams were Rain or Shine, which drafted him in 2016, and Alaska.

But Ahanmisi had to share minutes for most of his time for the crowd favorites, especially with a loaded Ginebra backcourt headlined by Scottie Thompson.

“At the end of the day, it’s business. And as selfish as it sounds, you’re gonna have to do those things for you and your family, and a lot of people will not like that decision,” he said.

“But if it benefits you and do it in a proper way, nobody can really knock you for that,” added Ahanmisi.
