MANILA, Philippines–The PBA postponed Sunday’s Philippine Cup doubleheader at Ynares Center II in Rodriguez, Rizal due to the threat of Typhoon Uwan.
The league made the announcement Saturday afternoon through its social media accounts, with Uwan expected to strengthen into a super typhoon before it makes a landfall.
“With the safety of our fans, players, officials and staff as our top priority, the PBA has decided to POSTPONE its Sunday, November 9 games,” the PBA said.
TNT was supposed to take on Magnolia in the 5:15 p.m. opener followed by Barangay Ginebra against Titan Ultra at 7:30 p.m. in what would have been the first crowd favorites’ first visit to the town informally called Montalban.
Both games will be rescheduled to a later date, the league said.
It was the first time the PBA postponed games due to bad weather since the semifinals of the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup.
The last time the league was forced to reschedule a game was in Game 6 of the 2022 Governors’ Cup Finals between Ginebra and Meralco due to a small fire inside Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s twinbill at Ynares Center in Antipolo pushed through with Converge playing Blackwater followed by Rain or Shine squaring off with NLEX.
