PH TEAM ADVANCES TO WORLD LACROSSE WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR FIRST TIME

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine women's lacrosse team has booked its place in the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championships, following two wins at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Women's Lacrosse Championships in Australia.

On Tuesday, the women's team defeated Hong Kong 14-2, which confirmed their place in next year's international tournament. Sarah Nelson was the best player of the game, after scoring four goals, while Ria Lagmadeo scored a hat trick.

During their 15-3 victory over China earlier this week, Kalena Johnson shined with four goals and an assist, while Steph Lazo also scored four goals, while Caroline Roxas had a hat trick.

They are set to face hosts Australia on Thursday.

Played similar to field and ice hockey, lacrosse is a contact team sport, which involves a stick and a ball. It was first contested at the Olympics in 1904 and again in 1908. It served as a demonstration sport in 1928, 1932, and 1948 before making its full return to the Olympic Games in 2028.
