GEO Chiu won’t be seeing action for Terrafirma in the first few months of the PBA 50th Season that will start in October.
The No. 1 pick in the draft last Sunday remains under contract with his MPBL team Abra and can only play for Terrafirma after the end of year when his commitment with the Weavers expire.
Chiu, though, plans to be present in Terrafirma practices when Abra has breaks in their MPBL campaign in order to get acclimated with the team.
"We all know naman na I have to end my stint muna with the MPBL. Napag-usapan namin na if ever may mga breaks kami, I could come over and join the team practices para kahit papaano, makapag-get together with the team, and makapag-practice na rin," said Chiu.
"If ever we reach the finals, then mga baka December (maka-join sa Terrafirma)," he added.
Chiu played his first MPBL game on Tuesday since being drafted in the PBA, finishing with nine points, nine rebounds, and two steals in the Weavers’ 117-63 win over Manila Batang Quiapo in Montalban, Rizal.
It was Chiu’s 10th game with the Weavers and is currently averaging 6.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks for the season.
Abra is likely headed for a deep run this season as its victory on Tuesday was its 24th to lead the North Division with the Weavers only have one defeat so far.
In the event that Abra makes a quick exit, Chiu said an early stint with Terrafirma will be a possibility.
"I have yet to talk about the specifics but, wag naman sana, if ever na we don’t reach where we want to reach, then I’m open naman to go straight para makapag-start na rin po," said Chiu.
