UAAP HANDS DOWN RULE STRIPPING TRANSFEREES OF ADDITIONAL YEAR OF ELIGIBILITY

THE UAAP Board of Trustees has confirmed its decision to amend its rules that will have transferees from one member school to another now losing one year of eligibility on top of the residency year that the players will have to serve.

UAAP executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag announced on Wednesday that the controversial revisions to the league's eligibility rules first reported by SPIN.ph last May are now in force.

The new rules will cover transferees between member schools for enrollees after the academic year 2023-2024.

"From the initial rule of the residency, now they will be charged two (years)," he said.

Saguisag also said that the league is ready to defend its move following Sen. Pia Cayetano’s appeal to "rethink its decision."

"We're ready (to defend it) if we’re called upon," he said.

Aside from that, other changes which will be enforced this year will be an appeal process for ejections.

UAAP basketball commissioner Xavy Nunag said that teams can appeal up to 48 hours for their players’ penalties to be downgraded, which would keep them in the running for the awards.

Previously, ejections mean automatic disqualification from the end-of-season awards.
