JCI MANILA ENGAGES YOUTH THROUGH SPORTS ACTIVITIES

THE Junior Chamber International Manila Chapter (JCI Manila) has supported the youth in not only discovering the sport of baseball, but also in encouraging bright young athletes to become top players as well.

Over the last 12 years, JCI Manila has bannered the Smokey Mountain Baseball Project (SMBP) to engage youth in impoverished areas in sports, diverting their attention away from negative influences and driving them toward academic achievement.

As of this year, the project has produced 109 athletic scholars across multiple schools, and now those athletes are paving the way to teach new kids the love of the game.

This 2023, JCI Manila has conducted sports activities in four cities, namely Antipolo, Pasig, Marikina and Taguig, totaling more than 70 student-athletes ages 5 to 16 years old, representing their cities and bringing a strong promise of talent and enthusiasm into the sport.

Over a period of 10 weeks, members of JCI Manila have provided equipment, training, support, and engagement to fuel their passion and interest.

To top it off, the steering committee has engaged international support from Japan. The organization No Borders, with full backing from its chief executive officer and former professional baseball player, Shogo Shibata along with the Japanese baseball team, will be flying to the Philippines during its culmination event to help train, engage and play with the beneficiaries of the project.

All of these, to deliver a strong future for the sport, and a promising avenue for the youth to become world-class talents and skilled athletes who would bring pride to the Philippines and their families.
