2024 PVL Reinforced final schedule

Calmed during the storm, Akari, Creamline clash for PVL title

The storm may have given the finalists of the PVL Reinforced Conference more time to gear up after the title bout was postponed on Monday.

Who will be more calm entering the crown duel will be known on Wednesday when eight-time champion Creamline and unbeaten Akari finally clash for the first time this conference in a one-game knockout for the title at 6 p.m. at PhilSports Arena.

The Chargers may have the disposition to wait out the rescheduling, owing to a character that Oly Okaro was wary of the first time she arrived.

Akari’s character key in PVL final vs Creamline

The character that the revamped Akari has is not something that import Oly Okaro expected when she first met the Chargers at the beginning of the PVL Reinforced Conference.

But that same character has been instrumental in bringing Akari to where it is right now: a 10-game winning run and on the verge of securing a first-ever title in its young history.

“Nothing’s changed. They’re still very goofy and they still like to have fun,” Okaro said after dropping 39 points against PLDT to lift her young squad to a maiden Finals appearance. “The only thing that I would say that is different, they’re a lot more focused and aggressive.”

PVL: Staying calm, having fun help bring the best out of Staunton

MANILA, Philippines — Erica Staunton refused to end her first pro stint in the quarterfinals as she powered Creamline in dethroning two-time defending champion Petro Gazz in the PVL Reinforced Conference.

Determined to go all the way, the American import stressed that she wanted to continue playing with the Cool Smashers, pouring in 19 points built on 16 attacks and three blocks to eliminate Petro Gazz, 25-23, 25-19, 25-18, on Tuesday evening at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City and advance to the knockout semifinal.

“I think I have a pretty specific pregame ritual, I kind of do a lot of things just to get my mind right before every game — focus on my breathing, just mindfulness, visualization, and stuff. Just because that personally really helps me with settling any nerves and then also just reminding myself that volleyball is fun, I have fun playing volleyball with my team,” said Staunton.
