LADY SPIKERS SLAY LADY TAMARAWS FOR ROUSING UAAP SEASON 88 OPENER

MANILA, Philippines -- The redemption tour of the La Salle Lady Spikers is off to a strong start as they shot down the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws, 25-19, 25-14, 27-25, in their UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball matchup Saturday evening at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

The Lady Spikers, last season’s runners-up, flexed their muscles against FEU to grab the win.

Shevana Laput top-scored for La Salle with 23 points on 20 attacks, two blocks and an ace. Angel Canino chipped in 15 markers, with 10 coming in the third set.

After manhandling FEU in the first two sets, the Lady Spikers found themselves trailing in the third frame.

The Lady Tamaraws led by four, 16-12, after an attack by Gerzel Petallo.

But six straight points by La Salle, capped by a block by Laput on Petallo, pushed the Taft-based squad ahead, 18-16.

A Clarisse Loresco attack snapped the run, as the two teams traded points down the stretch.

FEU was in prime position to force a fourth set after going up, 24-22, but La Salle would unleash three straight points, capped by an antenna touch by the Lady Tamaraws, to grab a 25-24 lead.

A net touch by rookie Lady Spiker Eshana Nunag tied things up, 25-all, but Laput put the finishing touches in the win with a tip and a kill.

Amie Provido had 11 points for La Salle while Nunag had 12 excellent sets to go with three points.

Petallo was the lone FEU player to finish in double figures with 11 points. Loresco had eight.
