MACAU BLACK BEARS ENTER PBA COMMISSIONER'S CUP AS GUEST TEAM

MANILA, Philippines -- A new team has entered the arena.

The Macau Black Bears will be participating in the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the league announced on Friday.

The squad will be a guest team in the mid-season conference, which will kick off on March 11.

In its website, the PBA said the Black Bears already signed a memorandum of agreement with PBA board vice chairman Alfrancis Chua and commissioner Willie Marcial during a meeting in Macau.

Formerly, the Bay Area Dragons and Hong Kong Eastern played as guest teams in the PBA.

The Dragons went to the PBA Season 47 Commissioner’s Cup finals before succumbing to Barangay Ginebva, while Eastern exited the PBA Season 49 competition in the quarterfinals.

Damian Chongqui, Omari Peek-Green, Phoenix Shackelford and Sam Deguara are among the players of the Black Bears.

The team previously campaigned in the defunct ASEAN Basketball League, and currently plays in the East Asia Super League and the Asian Tournament.
