MANILA, Philippines—Francis Ceccarelli of the Philippines fell short in the men’s giant slalom event of the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics at the Stelvio Ski Centre in Bormio, Italy on Saturday night (Manila time).
Cecarelli finished 54th with a total time of 2:48.23 minutes across two runs. Despite the outcome, though, the Filipino bet found positives in his debut in the Winter Games.
“I’m so happy. [I’m just] really emotional because it’s my first time but I’m ready for the work because this is for my country,” he said.
Lucas Braathen Pinheiro won gold after clocking in a total of 2:25:00 minutes across two runs. The Swiss pair of Marco Odermatt and Loic Meillard snagged the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Ceccarelli clocked 1:27.36 in Run 1 after a strong start, clearing the first intermediate in 23.18 seconds. He ran into trouble in the latter portion of the course and ended the first leg at No. 57 overall.
In Run 2, Ceccarelli registered 1:20.87, improving three spots to finish 54th in his Olympic debut.
