ALAS PILIPINAS YIELDS TO DOMINANT VIETNAM, SETTLES FOR SILVER IN AVC NATIONS CUP

MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas simply could not keep up with the taller, faster, and more experienced Vietnam team in the final, 15-25, 17-25, 14-25, to settle for a silver medal in the AVC Women's Nations Cup at the Dong Anh Arena on Saturday night.

Alyssa Solomon hammered eight points to lead the Philippines, which silver is still an achievement in and of itself, being the country's highest finish in an AVC tournament.

Shaina Nitura added six points for Alas, which fared well the most in the second frame where it led by as many as two and was only down, 13-14, before the hosts put up a strong finish.

Thi Thanh Thuy Tran 'T4' stamped her class as she pumped 17 points on one ace, three blocks, and 13 attacks including the push that clinched the match for the Vietnamese, who ruled the tournament for the third straight time.

Thi Bich Tuyen Nguyen proved to be just as good as T4 as she racked up 20 markers on 16 attacks, two blocks, and two aces.

Alas got dominated in the attacking department with 27-49 and in service, 0-7.
