AFTER parting ways with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, setter Mars Alba has joined the Akari Chargers in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).
Alba, a dynamic player known for her ability to both set and spike, joins Akari to fill the void left by the retired floor general Michelle Cobb, significantly boosting the Chargers’ need for a playmaker.
Just a week after announcing her exit from Choco Mucho via Instagram, Akari posted on its social media platform that it officially signed the dual role player.
“Setting the tone. Bringing the vibes. Let’s give it up for the newest spark in the Akari Fam, Mars Alba,” Akari wrote on its socials.
Alba will now join Kamuy Cal in orchestrating the plays for Akari, with a set of lofty gunners led by Ivy Lacsina, Grethcel Soltones and Eli Soyud.
Alba played for three conferences for Choco Mucho, which she helped reach the finals in the 2024 All-Filipino Conference before falling to Creamline.
In previous PVL post-game interviews last season, Choco Mucho head coach Dante Alinsunurin had consistently voiced his satisfaction with acquiring Alba, noting her significant contribution to the team's setter rotation alongside Deanna Wong.
But during the off-season, Alba announced on June 30 that she will no longer play for Choco Mucho.Alinsunurin said the team will move on without Alba.
“Of course, whatever the players want, I'll keep going. I'll coach, and we'll adjust to whatever we can do. You know, we'll plan our next steps so our campaign in all the leagues will be successful,” he said.
Choco Mucho recently drafted Filipino American setter Tia Andaya.
