DWIGHT RAMOS GLAD TO MAKE ATENEO RETURN IN GILAS UNIFORM

MANILA, Philippines — Short was his stint with the Ateneo de Manila Blue Eagles, Dwight Ramos said he's glad to make his return to the Katipunan campus now wearing the Gilas Pilipinas jersey.

Ramos and the nationals blasted Guam, 95-71, at the Blue Eagle Gym on Monday to sweep the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers first window, 2-0.

The 6-foot-4 Ramos logged 19 points, seven rebounds, and two steals in the win.

"It brings back memories but I used to train in Moro (Moro Lorenzo Sports Center). But just being back in Ateneo, I remember what my daily life was," said Ramos.

"I was at Ateneo for a short time so I don't really know if they (Ateneans) are rooting for me cause I didn't play (in the UAAP) but the love is mutual. I still have memories here. It feels good to be back."

Ramos first played collegiate basketball in the United States with Cal State Fullerton from 2016 to 2018 and Cal Poly Pomona from 2018 to 2019 before moving here to the Philippines.

After his redshirt year in 2019, Ramos was supposed to make his Ateneo debut in the UAAP Season 83 men's basketball in 2020 but it was cancelled due to the Covid 19-pandemic.

Ramos eventually opted to go pro in 2021 with Toyama Grouses and now with Levanga Hokkaido in Japan's B.League.

Ramos suited up for Ateneo at the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) in March 2020, helping the Blue Eagles win the national championship.

In 2021, Ramos started suiting for Gilas and has been a mainstay since.

He talked about Gilas' first window sweep in the qualifiers and its upcoming games in the second window against New Zealand and Australia in February next year.

"2-0. The next one's gonna be tough New Zealand and Australia. Obviously, we need to keep getting better but I think from the Asia Cup to now we've already improved so we're just gonna keep building," said Ramos.

"The two wins put us in a good position heading to the second round and we're ust gonna try to win as many games and get to qualify for the World Cup. New Zealand and Australia, we got to try to win some of those games."
