GINEBRA ROLLS PAST BLACKWATER TO STRENGTHEN QF BID

MANILA, Philippines —Barangay Ginebra played with a great sense of urgency as it blasted Blackwater, 103-85, to strengthen its quarterfinal bid in the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

The Gin Kings pulled away for good from a tight first quarter after outgunning the Bossing, 40-20 in the second period to grab a sizeable 63-42 halftime lead.

Ginebra took control of the game the rest of the way to pull its record up to an even 4-4 card, in a tie with Meralco.

RJ Abarrientos, fresh from his Gilas stint against Guam last week, led Ginebra with 15, spiked by three triples, while Stephen Holt and Jeremiah Gray added 12 apiece.

Jayson David flirted with a double-double of 11 and eight boards, while Troy Rosario scored 10 in a balanced scoring attack for Ginebra.

Rookie Dalph Panopio, who is bound for the Southeast Asian Games with Gilas, led the Bossing with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Sedrick Barefield added 18, but Blackwater dropped to 1-8, in a tie for last place with Terrafirma.

The loss saw the Bossing practically kiss their playoff hopes goodbye.

Earlier, Meralco unleashed its full scoring might following a slow start to smother Terrafirma, 120-87 and snap a two-game skid.

The Bolts fell, 0-9 in the opening minutes, before recovering from there, with Chris Banchero and CJ Cansino on the firing end.

Meralco broke the game wide open by outscoring Terrafirma, 66-46 in the middle quarters en route to sealing their fourth win in 10 starts.

More importantly, the Bolts revived their quarterfinal hopes with the victory.

Cansino led the Bolts with 20 points and eight rebounds, while four other Meralco players scored in double figures.

Meralco crushed Terrafirma, 67-36.

Mark Nonoy scored 22 points, while Paolo Hernandez had 18 for the Dyip, who dropped to 1-8, their playoff hopes virtually snuffed out.
