MANILA, Philippines — NU Lady Bulldogs star Bella Belen just graduated last Friday at the SMX Convention Center, earning a degree in Psychology.
Of course, Belen has been using her major as a guide to her everyday life including her volleyball career.
After leading NU past La Salle in Game One of the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball Finals, Belen took the time to explain how being a Psychology graduate helps her approach the game.
"Finishing a degree in psychology also really helps me, especially with how I think on the court," said Belen, who logged 19 points, 15 excellent digs, and 10 receptions as NU emerged triumphant in Game One, 25-17, 25-21, 13-25, 25-17.
"Like, if the game is close, I don't need to panic. There's always a solution to every problem. I just try to keep a positive mindset," the 22-year-old reigning MVP added.
Belen said being a Psychology major helps her on how to deal and motivate her teammates.
"Maybe it's also because I already know them well, both as players and as regular people, so I know how to approach them when they're feeling down or not in the mood to play," shared Belen.
"I know how to talk to them—whether I need to be calm or a bit tougher—since every athlete is different. Personally, I prefer being talked to calmly, while someone else might need more of a push."
