LADY BULLDOGS NEAR 2ND STRAIGHT TITLE, STOP LADY SPIKERS IN GAME 1

MANILA, Philippines — The NU Lady Bulldogs closed in on a second straight championship after stopping the De La Salle Lady Spikers, 25-17, 25-21, 13-25, 25-17, in Game One of the UAAP Season 87 women's volleyball best-of-3 Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.

Unable to sweep La Salle which dominated in the third set, the Lady Bulldogs held off the Lady Spikers in the fourth frame with Vange Alinsug delivering back-to-back spikes to seal it for the defending champions.

Alinsug finished with 21 points on 21 attacks while reigning MVP Bella Belen flaunted another all-around game with 19 points, 15 digs, and 10 receptions.

Angel Canino, who powered La Salle's onslaught in the fourth set, logged 22 points, 13 receptions, and four digs.

The Lady Bulldogs may close out the series in Game Two on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
