ONIFA DOMINATES SHORT TRAIL EVENT IN SEA TRAIL RUNNING CUP 2024

MANILA, Philippines — John Ray Onifa braved the tough trail of Bontoc, Mountain Province, and clinched the gold medal in the Short Trail (37-kilometer) event of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Trail Running Cup 2024 on Sunday, June 23.

Also called "Stingray" as his personality is shy and quiet, Onifa humbly shared that he expected to win.

"I am so happy that I finished with no injuries. The course is difficult, and it's very humid. Yes, I expect to be the first, and I am confident," the reserved Onifa said.

The crowd's favorite Onifa also competed in the Vertical Kilometer event where he snatched the silver medal.

Aside from his triumph, the Filipinos dominated the Short Trail course as Romnick Tongkaling, and Godwin Mirar copped the silver, and bronze medals, respectively.

In the women's edition, Trisha Reyes emerged victorious after leading the trail, while Philippines' Christabel Martes took the silver.

Thailand's Yupa Saelee booked the last spot of the podium in the women's short trail course.
