PACQUIAO WANTS TO SUPERVISE JIMUEL’S TRAINING

(UPDATE) FILIPINO boxing great Manny Pacquiao admitted he felt anxious watching his son Jimuel make his professional fight debut at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Jimuel settled for a majority draw against fellow debuting Brendan Lally of the United States in their 4-round lightweight clash.

“It’s my first time to feel like that. My muscles were shaking. My heart is beating too much,” said Pacquiao to the media post-fight.

“I was just quiet in my seat. My feelings were unexplainable. I want to shout, give him instructions, but I’m sure he cannot hear me.”

The anxiety made the 46-year-old Pacquiao want to train his 23-year-old son by himself.

“He can fight again but I have to make sure that I’m supervising his training. I don’t want that to happen again. He needs to improve more, his instinct and focus on his fight,” said Pacquiao.

“I want him to be in my undercard so I can supervise the training so I can push him more. I can push him in training.”

Pacquiao, the world’s only eight-division champ, said that Jimuel did okay, especially for a fighter who didn’t have plenty of amateur experience.

He believes his eldest son can do better next time.

“It’s a good experience for him. He finished a 4-round fight. He didn’t have a long experience in the amateurs so it’s understandable to see a performance like that,” said Pacquiao.

“It’s good. I’m satisfied with his performance but like I said he can do better than that and I believe that he can do more.”
