GUIAO FIRES UP ROS 'PRIMARY PG' CARACUT IN DOWN SEASON SO FAR

WHEN you don’t give your best, expect the worst from Yeng Guiao.

Andrei Caracut was once again on the receiving end of the fiery coach’s trademark tough love in Rain or Shine’s 91-80 win over Phoenix in the PBA 50th Season Philippine Cup on Wednesday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.

Guiao was seen during a timeout scolding the star playmaker in a video captured by the PBA’s social media team, a rare blip to a rather fine showing by the Elasto Painters on the way to their fourth straight win and fifth overall in six games for the solo lead.

"I'm just frustrated that he's not playing up to expectation and his potential," Guiao said after the game. "I am holding him accountable to focusing back to what made him the primary point guard of the team."

The La Salle product first checked in with a little over seven minutes left in the first half and was subbed out after less than four minutes of playing time following a foul on RR Garcia, never to return.

Caracut wound up scoreless after missing his three shots, adding two boards in three minutes and 20 seconds of play.

Caracut's wake-up call

After scoring 10 points in over 17 minutes in RoS’ first game of the conference, a one-point win over Meralco, Caracut has been held to single-digit scoring in his next five games, norming just 2.4 points in 11.6 minutes.

The numbers are a far cry from last season’s showing that saw him put up 9.6 points on 42.2-percent shooting from the field, 3.4 assists, and two boards in 22.2 minutes over 59 games.

But knowing Guiao, Caracut will keep getting opportunities to redeem himself.

It’s up to the veteran court general to live up to expectations.
