KEVIN Quiambao continued to show why he’s the reigning Season and Finals MVP, topping the scoring list at the end of the first round of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.
The Gilas Pilipinas forward led the league with his 16.43 points as he steered the Green Archers to the top of the standings with a 6-1 win-loss record.

University of Santo Tomas bets were close behind, with Mo Tounkara at second with his 14.0 points and Nic Cabanero at third with 13.57 points.
JD Cagulangan of University of the Philippines, despite just playing five games, is at fourth with 13.4 points, while Jorick Bautista of Far Eastern University is at fifth with 13.14 points.
Rounding out the top 10 are Veejay Pre of FEU and Precious Momowei of University of the East, both averaging 11.57 points; Ateneo’s Shawn Tuano (11.14 points), Jake Figueroa of National University (10.71 points), and Mathew Montebon of Adamson (10.57 points).
FEU big man Mo Konateh ruled the boards in the first round as he grabbed 16.14 rebounds, including a league-high 5.29 offensive boards.

Chasing him are Momowei who’s at second with his 13.29 rebounds and La Salle’s Michael Phillips at third with 11.57 rebounds. Millora-Brown is at fourth (9.71 rebounds), while Quiambao and Adamson’s OJ Ojarikre are tied for fifth (8.86 rebounds).
UST playmaker Forthsky Padrigao has distanced himself among the best dimers with his league-high 7.14 assists. Behind him were Cagulangan (6.0 assists), Quiambao (5.43 assists), Ateneo rookie Jared Bahay (4.86 assists), and La Salle’s Joshua David (4.57 assists).

Phillips surprisingly led the league in steals with his 1.71 mark, while in hot pursuit are UE's Wello Lingolingo (1.57 steals), FEU’s Chiolo Anonuevo (1.5 steals), UE’s Ethan Galang (1.33 steals, and Quiambao and Bautista (1.29 steals).
Ojarikre was the best swatter in the first round with his 2.71 blocks while Konateh is at close no. 2 with his 2.43 rejections. UP teammates Millora-Brown and Lopez are tied for third with 1.43 blocks, and Manzano is at fifth with 1.29 rejections.

NU’s Kenshin Padrones had the best field goal percentage through seven games with his 62.16-percent shooting clip, followed by UP’s Quentin Millora-Brown (56.76-percent) and Francis Lopez (53.06-percent), Tounkara (52.63-percent), and Tuano (50.85-percent).
Ateneo’s Kyle Gamber, meanwhile, was the best three-point shooter as he made seven of his 15 threes for a 46.67-percent clip. He was followed by NU’s Steve Nash Enriquez (43.48-percent), Lingolingo and UP’s Terrence Fortea (42.11-percent), and Cagulangan (36.84-percent).
Montebon has also made the most of his free throws making 17 of his 20 freebies for 85-percent clip from the charity stripe. Tounkara is at second (77.78-percent), followed by Adamson’s Cedrick Manzano (74.07-percent), NU’s Jolo Manansala (73.91-percent), and UE’s John Abate (72.73-percent).

Meanwhile, Momowei has gotten the most errors through seven games, committing 4.86 turnovers for the Red Warriors. Also in the top five for most miscues were Padrigao (3.43 turnovers), Quiambao (3.29 turnovers), Manzano and FEU’s Janrey Pasaol (3.14 turnovers).
Momowei also averaged the most minutes, playing for an average of 34 minutes and 39 seconds. Pre is second (33:49), followed by fellow Tamaraw Konateh (33:22), Figueroa (31:08), and Quiambao (29:53).
