TEAM USA ANNOUNCES ITS MEN'S GOLF TEAM FOR SUMMER OLYMPICS

Three years ago, Xander Schauffele won a gold medal at the Toyko Olympics.

Schauffele and Nelly Korda made it a clean sweep for Team USA at the podium, and the men's team for 2024 has the talent to compete for a repeat performance.

USA Golf announced this year's men's Olympic roster, and it's full of major champions.

Schauffele, who recently won the PGA Championship, returns to defend his title. He'll be joined by world No. 1 and two-time Masters champion Scottie Scheffler.

Two-time major winner Collin Morikawa will make his second Olympic appearance in Paris, and the fourth member of the team will be 2023 U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark.

Some fans wondered why Clark made the team instead of this year's U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau, but qualification is based on the Olympic Golf Ranking.

DeChambeau trailed both Clark and Patrick Cantlay in the final rankings before the team was set, giving the last spot to the 2023 U.S. Open winner.

Golf made its return to the Summer Olympics in 2016 after a near 100-year absence. That year, Justin Rose won gold for Great Britain in Rio, while Sweden's Henrik Stenson took home silver.

Matt Kuchar of the United States won bronze for the men's event in 2016, and the Americans are looking to make it three straight appearances on the podium.

The golf event at this year's Olympic Games will be held at Le Golf National near Paris. The course hosts tournaments in the European Tour on an annual basis, and has previously hosted international golf competitions such as the Ryder Cup.
