"I am genuinely heartbroken. Two years ago I randomly dm’ed Sergei Berezin to tell him how much I loved him as a kid when he was on my Maple Leafs, and not only did he reply but we became buddies over Instagram who’d occasionally chat hockey. I’m speechless. I really am," one fan wrote.

"Rest in peace Sergei Berezin. Never forget his beauty set up to Steve Thomas in Game 5 OT against the Sens," one fan added.

"Former Maple Leaf Sergei Berezin has passed away at the age of 52 years old. Hell of a player and always the had sickest style … Rest in Peace Sergei Berezin," one fan added.
