AT A TIME WHEN CAREER IS ON THE RISE, JM CALMA SUFFERS AN ACL INJURY

NORTHPORT suffered a big blow on Wednesday when it was confirmed that JM Calma has torn his ACL, an MRI revealed.

Batang Pier coach Bonnie Tan revealed the development, saying Calma will be out for 10 to 12 months owing to the knee injury.

Calma sustained the injury during the 6:25-mark of the first quarter when he was guarding Barangay Ginebra big man Christian Standhardinger last Sunday.

Calma’s injury is a letdown since the former San Sebastian big man has been playing well for NorthPort this conference.

Drafted No. 6 during the Season 47 draft, Calma was averaging 8.8 points and 6.1 rebounds for NorthPort during the Commissioner’s Cup, and 7.9 points and 5.0 rebounds in the ongoing Philippine Cup.

The 6-foot-6 Calma was also fresh from winning the Obstacle Challenge in last month’s PBA All-Star Weekend in Bacolod City.

NorthPort started the conference with a 4-1 win-loss record fueled by a four-game winning streak, but has since struggled with back-to-back defeats.
