PBA GIVEN OUTRIGHT SPOT IN FIBA'S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS LEAGUE ASIA

PBA teams are in line for another international undertaking as Fiba is set to hold the Basketball Champions League Asia this year.

The new tournament is a rebranding of the Fiba Asia Champions Cup where top teams in the continent compete.

Fiba has given the PBA an outright slot in the BCL Asia, alongside the champions of the Japan B.League, Korean Basketball League, and Chinese Basketball Association.

No PBA selection process yet

The PBA has yet to announce the selection process for its representative to the tournament.

Two spots from the Fiba West Asia Super League, and two berths from the qualifying tournament are up for grabs in the coming months.

Once PBA's participation is confirmed, it will be the second time that Philippine ballclubs take part in the Asia competition.

TNT and Meralco were part of the 2023-24 season of the East Asia Super League that concluded this month with Japan side Chiba Jets capturing the crown.

Mongolia to host first round

The first round of qualification will be held from April 3 to 7 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia where Justin Brownlee’s Indonesia ballclub is, incidentally, competing.

Pelita Jaya Basketball is part of Group B along with Hi-Tech Basketball Club of Thailand, Adroit Club of Singapore, and the 2023-24 champion of the Mongolian league.

Group A is composed of Prawira Harum Bandung of Indonesia, NS Matrix Deers of Malaysia, Hong Kong Eastern Basketball Team, and the 2023-24 Mongolian league runner-up.

The second round will be held from April 23 to 26 in Jakarta.
