ALEX EALA STUNS WORLD NO. 41 FOR FIRST WIN IN MADRID OPEN

MANILA, Philippines: Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala has clinched her first win in the Madrid Open in Spain.

In the first round of the tournament on Tuesday, Eala had upset world number 41 Lesia Tsurenko of Ukraine in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Eala, currently ranked 170th in the world as of Monday, trailed at the first set before battling back in the second and third to pull the upset victory over Tsurenko.

According to the Rafa Nadal Academy, where Eala studied, this is her first win in a Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 1000 event, and called it "the biggest match of her career".

On Thursday, Eala will next face off against former world number 21 Sorana Cîrstea of Romania, who is presently ranked 30th in the WTA rankings.
