NCAA VOLLEYBALL: MAPUA, PERPETUAL GAIN SHARE OF FOURTH

MANILA, Philippines—The Final Four race in the NCAA Season 99 women’s volleyball tournament intensified with Mapua and Perpetual Help tallying wins to create a logjam for the last semifinal slot on Tuesday.

The Lady Altas squeaked by San Beda, 20-25, 25-13, 22-25, 25-17, 15-6, at San Juan Arena.

Shaila Omipon powered Perpetual Help with 26 big points while Mary Rhose Dapol and Winnie Bedana scored 17 and 16 points, respectively to give the Lady Altas a 3-2 card.

Angel Mae Habacon’s 27-point outing was not enough for the Lady Red Spikers as they crashed to a 1-4 card.

The Lady Cardinals, meanwhile, continued to show their prowess with a 25-20, 25-19, 25-19 drubbing of Jose Rizal University.

Roxie Dela Cruz paced Mapua with 10 points en route to a 3-2 record.

No Lady Heavy Bomber scored in double digits with Gayle Batara and Karyla Jasareno scattering seven points each in the loss that put them in a 1-4 slump.

Mapua and Perpetual joined Arellano University in the three-way tie for fourth place.

College of St. Benilde is currently on top with five wins in as many games with Letran (4-1) and Lyceum (4-0) comfortably creeping behind.
