CAUSE OF DEATH ANNOUNCED FOR FORMER LAKERS GUARD DARIUS MORRIS

Just over a month ago the basketball world was rocked by the death of former Los Angeles Lakers guard Darius Morris.

The former Michigan star was just 33 years old when he passed away, leading to plenty of questions surrounding his death. On Friday night, TMZ reported the official cause of death for Morris was coronary artery disease, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

According to the ME's death investigation summary, obtained by TMZ Sports, drug and alcohol use was a significant factor in Darius' death ... specifically, the effects of cocaine, hydrocodone and ethanol.

The former Los Angeles Lakers guard's death is being ruled accidental.

As we reported ... Darius' was found dead in a Los Angeles-area home on May 2 ... the ME report says he was examined the following day and he still had alcohol, cocaine and hydrocodone in his system.

The former high school basketball star eventually took his talents to the University of Michigan. Following a strong collegiate career, the former top recruit was drafted by his hometown Lakers early in the second round of the 2011 draft.

He spent two seasons with the Lakers before going on to play for the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and Brooklyn Nets during his four-year NBA career.
